Variety: Corvina, Rondinella, and Cabernet Sauvignon
Giuseppe Quintarelli is a class act in the region of Veneto, more specifically in the zone of Valpolicella. There he’s known as the Maestro of Veneto. His name commands respect, the wines are sought after, yet difficult to track down. What set him apart from other producers growing the same grapes in this region is the love and passion that went into each one of them and the whimsical hand-written bottle labels. This is a true passion project as the wines are never hurried in the cellar. Multiple passes through the vineyard allows the making of more than one wine from the same grapes, including the tedious process of the appassimento method where the grapes would raisinate on straw mats. After a career spanning 60 years, his daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren carry on his passion for the things in life that need a little more time.
This is a rare blend with both native Veneto varieties and some other Italian varieties like Nebbiolo and Sangiovese. The wine undergoes an extensive process where half the fruit is pressed right after harvest, then the other half is dried for 2 months. A second fermentation starts which is called the ripasso method, which some call “poor man’s Amarone.”
