90 points Wine Advocate
From old vines averaging 70 years of age, the 2021 Morgon Grands Cras has a bouquet of grilled red fruits complemented by candied peel, ginger and cacao. Refined after aging for 10 months in barrel, it offers ample finesse, bright acidity and textural chalky tannins that hold the wine upright. This is still a bit tightly wound, though it possesses all of the required elements for graceful, satisfactory aging.
The plot, situated ideally at the foot of Côte du Py, is one of the famous climates of the appellation. The Grands Cras can stand up to the best. The nose is a delicious and intense bouquet with aromas of fresh red fruits, licorice, and smoke. In the mouth feel it offers a lot of finesse, a great balance, and a very nice length. It offers all the qualities of wine for ageing.
Guillaume Rouget, winemaker and partner, is the son of the great Emmanuel Rouget of Burgundy’s Domaine Emmanuel Rouget who is the nephew of the late great Henri Jayer. Wow, now that is winemaking pedigree!
